The Miri Night Market

09.02.08 - Miri. To be in Miri and not experience the Night Market which is situated at the boulevard will not be labeled as spending a holiday at all. It only happens 2 days a week, well, actually, 2 1/2 day if u count the packing session on Sunday. Not much stall is left on sunday morning.. But, the most happening time would be from 7pm, Friday till close and 7pm, Saturday up till closing time. There are a variety of food to be tried there and all of them can be called as the local delicacies.

Before I start blogging bout my expedition, lets talk bout miri fashion. I weren't able to capture all of them but this few shots would do just fine...

Girl in Black - Most of the girls in Miri would dress as such to come out for a stroll..

and that is the usual wear for guys in miri. that explain why people don't think that Im from Miri.. well, technically, I don't but I live there now.. anyways...

Another version of the girls casual wear in Miri...

here is a good view of the Boulevard Shopping Complex from the top floor

Ok then, after capturing some interesting images at the mall, I head down towards the Night Market or what the locals calls it "Pasar Malam" At any other day, this area is just your typical parking lot but not on friday to sunday. The tenants would come in at 2pm on every friday to set up their stalls. Tents were put up, power generator being tested, some would even push their cart to their designated lot from their storing place which is usually at the back alley of the surrounding buildings. most of the food would be prepared by 5:30pm and they would rest while patiently wait for the crowd. The crowd is usually slow around 5:30 up till 6pm. Usually the time where people just got off work and are still stuck inside a traffic congestion. Well, the traffic ain't that bad in Miri but people in Miri seems to have a hard time coming out from a round-a-bout. not too sure why as I've never had any problem. so anyways... I was there at 6pm to take these shots......

This is the Entrance from the right if u are viewing it from the Main road. Usually they have the drink stalls here. Usually..

Already a customer feeling thirsty. most of them have the same selection of drinks so I would advice, get it at any stall which is closest to where you are at..

Here is how you squeeze the juice out of a sugar cane... I love sugar cane drinks.. its a cooling drink suitable for a hot and humid country...

The BBQ chicken wings.. You have to try em out. they are marvelous.. but try to get those which is more towards the natural colors as the reds ones... those are artificial colorings...

The lady owner in action..

Another dish not to be missed.. its called "Ikan Panggang" in Malay in other words "Grilled Fish". The top right fish is a stingray. These fish are garnish with the aromatic Sambal.. with is the top most important ingredient of the dish.

I smell something fishy... look at all those fishes... all of them would be sold out at the end of the day... well... more.. but.. im only talking bout the ones I took.. :P

There are tons of these stalls here... well, you just have to have the luck to choose the stall which suites you taste the most.... I don't have any personal fav...serious..

Satay... the local delicacies of Malaysia.. I've forgotten to take a close up picture.. but I'm sure its an easy find on the internet.. well, the funny thing that happened when i took this picture.. you notice the portion of hair and shoulder on the right.. not the little girl.. anyways, she is my ex-teacher.. took a few shots and thought she looks familiar.. until it struck my head...

More to come........ just one trip that night.. and I ran out of memory space... 2gb...
