Marang / Buah Tarap

Marang or better know as Buah Tarap by locals here in Borneo is a local favorite sweet fruit with a strong scent equivalent to the king of fruits Durian and the Jackfruit. I've tried to search for it around peninsula Malaysia but to no success. hahaha... but today is my lucky day as it's the season where it floods the market's floor. At RM10 for 3 at most stalls it's a reasonably priced fruit to be enjoyed with.

There is a secret to choosing this fruit according to my dad. If you want to find those with larger seeds, seek the ones with thicker spines. trust me, you will wanna get those with thicker spines.

My cravings surpass my sanity as I dash to open one once we reached home and even finish the whole thing in barely under 10 minutes.. hahaha... gosh, i miss it so much... it's not the best but still, its good... if you've been to Borneo and have yet tried a Buah Tarap, you have not been to Borneo. look pass the surface covered with spines and once you deep your fingers into these soft, moist fruit and melt it in your mouth as the juice ooze out and fill you taste bud... you know where this is going :) enjoy

It's not the best looker but it's delicious

Kuching, Sarawak

It's been 7 years since I last step foot in kuching. Everything has changed and everything looks very different from the last time i saw it... but it was great to be back.. although I've been back Kuching twice in a month.. but twice I was busy as hell.. Rush all over... anyhow, I managed to visited Wisma Saberkas, a place I used to hang out as a kid... but it turns into an I.T. station... I loitered around and found a unique restaurant on the top floor with very cheap plastic rock looking tables and chairs called "STONE ICE" I checked out the menu and it was pretty pricey... lol

So I finally decides to order the "ROJAK" @ RM2.00 per 100g which is pretty pricey. But the unique part is that we get to choose the ingredient which is displayed in trays.. there were a lot of fruits... mango, honey dew, apple, grapes.... etc..... so I got some and went to weight it... comes round to RM4.50

That was my encounter with a local delicacy at a very old location in my memory....

I've always been trying to find "DARK CHOCOLATE" which is not sweet... thought I found one at "THE HILL, Kuching" a new shopping mall which is fairly occupied.. I asked and the cashier told me its locally made and even said its not sweet... but oh well, as usual, local customer service and product knowledge..... disappointment..... yet again... journey continues...

Talk bout customer service

I've been meaning to blog this Mini Market... its situated at Kelana Jaya, PJ, Selangor. on the same block at the Kelana Jaya Clinic and next to the Kelana Puteri Apartment.

The attendent and the Cashier of this small Malay Mini Market is extremely rude and you can totally aspect no Customer service here. I walked in to find a grumpy lady in tudung seated behind the cashier. She gave me a hostile stare and ...... before we go anywhere...

well, it all started early in the morning... I went out without my wallet.. and I only realized it when I reached the bus stop.. i borrowed RM10 from my friend but the bus here only accept the exact amount. so I decided to walk into a store to make a change. I went into the store in the picture.... and I took like 50 cents worth of sweet.. and pass her the RM10 note.. she looked at me rudely and said

"No! No! No small change! and show me the "sorry I don't wan ur business" hand signal. she didn't even smile... sigh.... anyways, I got my change at the Mamak restaurant with the same amount of sweet purchase... added with a smile... lol anyways... beware of the Rude Malay lady cashier at the Daiya Mini Market, Kelana Jaya... or was it because I'm a chinese... the truth is out there................
